Kenny Loves to Read

First of all, I have to say that I hardly ever write reviews for books that I rate 2 stars or lower but I felt so frustrated by the potential this book had that I knew I had to make a note or two on here. What bugged me so much? Maybe I'm getting a little bit jaded with tales of vampires, werewolves, witches and fairies (yes, it had them all) but that wasn't what got me with this one. I know that every book is allowed a few grammatical errors (I’m guilty of a few in my work) but the version I downloaded needed a serious re-edit because quite a lot of punctuation marks and words were missing. There were so many at a point that I just accepted that they'd be another one round the corner. There were also a lot of conversations that went on and on and led to nothing. I'm not saying that every conversation needs to lead to something but they should at least be relevant to the story in some form. There was a whole section about painkillers that got me wondering if I had accidentally switched books. Is there more? Sadly, yes. Characters who are supposed to be in the seventeenth century should speak like they are in the seventeenth century. Words they use should match the time they are in. Also I didn't understand how someone that was supposed to have lived for over three hundred years could still talk and reason like a confused teenager. Your body might not age but surely your mind should! I didn’t care about any of the characters (most especially Hannah and Jesse) because they came across as incredibly flaky and immature for people who were supposed to know better. There were bits in the book where one thing was said only to be completely negated a few pages down the line, with no reconciliation of the anomaly in a later part of the book. To be honest, I glazed over a bit for the last half of the book and only the compulsion to not leave it unfinished drove me on till the last page (there was an audible sigh of relief when I got there). What a shame as it's had so many five star ratings and I was really looking forward to reading it. Ok, rant over. On to the next one…
